Home Community Chao Lectureship In Cancer Research Unlocking Cancer's Secrets The Allen and Lee-Hwa Chao Lectureship in Cancer Research was established in 1999 to provide an outlet for discussing and sharing cutting-edge advancements in cancer research, prevention and treatment. This prestigious series hosts a world-renowned leader in the field each year, who delivers both a technical colloquium and a public lecture. Both lectures are free and open to the public. The lectureship is made possible by the generous gift of Allen Chao and his wife, Lee-Hwa Chao. The Chao family has a long history of supporting UC Irvine and the Cancer Center, with three generations contributing nearly $30 million to the campus. The cancer center is named in the family's honor. The lecture series is named in honor of the Chao family patriarch, the late H. H.
