An Anticancer Camera?
At the forefront of a movement to rewrite oral and oropharyngeal cancer outcomes, Dr. Petra Wilder-Smith has spent the last two decades working on devices for early detection. Now, in collaboration with Rongguang Liang at the University of Arizona’s Wyant College of Optical Sciences, the director of dentistry at UC Irvine’s Beckman Laser Institute & Medical Clinic and a professor of medicine has developed a commercial intraoral camera with the ability to screen for cancer.

Community open house celebrates new facilities at UCI Health ― Irvine
UCI Health hosted a vibrant community open house on Saturday, July 20, to celebrate the opening of the Joe C. Wen & Family Center for Advanced Care and the Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center and Ambulatory Care building at the new UCI Health – Irvine medical complex. The afternoon event welcomed hundreds of community members and UCI Health co-workers to the new medical complex at 19200 Jamboree Road in Irvine.

UCI Health first in region to use new CT imaging technology
UCI Health has become the first Southern California health system to offer advanced photon-counting computed tomography scanning, which features higher resolution scanning at a fraction of the time necessary for traditional CT imaging. The first patients were scanned on July 16 at the new Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center and Ambulatory Care building on the UCI Health ― Irvine medical campus.

A University of California, Irvine research team has developed and implemented an intervention to enhance cancer care support services for racial and ethnic minority patients undergoing chemotherapy. The electronic patient-reported outcome tool is a web-based application that allows individuals to enter their health data into a smartphone, tablet or computer.
